Shrimp Ceviche: Taste Of The Sea.

Hello foodies! Exciting day today, as we are going to learn how to prepare one of our favorite seafood dishes in Mexico. The one and only, Ceviche.

What is ceviche?

Ceviche is a popular and well-known Latin American seafood recipe for raw fish that has been marinated in citrus juice, primarily lime and lemon. Also known as cebiche, seviche, or sebiche, ceviche often includes onions, chiles, cilantro, and tomatoes.

There is a debate about the origins of ceviche. Some people claim that it’s origins are in Peru, almost 2000 years ago. Others, claim the Pacific coast fo Mexico as de place where this exceptional dish was born.  Either way, ceviche is a dish that is well known in several parts of the world. Today we are going to learn how to prepare it as it is in Mexico.

In Mexico, it is prepared using shrimp, octopus, squid, tuna, and mackerel as popular bases along with salt, lime juice, onion, chili peppers, avocado, and cilantro as the marinade… Getting hungry? I bet! So, let’s get into it!

Today we are going to prepare Mexican Shrimp Ceviche. While most ceviche recipes start with raw fish and then the citrus juices “cook” the seafood, this Mexican Shrimp Ceviche recipe actually instructs you to boil the shrimp for 1-2 minutes before making the ceviche.

This step ensures your shrimp are cooked all of the way through and any potentially bad bacteria have been killed.

The following recipe is for 10 servings. For 20 just double the amounts 🙂

  • 2 ½ Tbsp. lemon juice fresh
  • 1/3 cup orange juice fresh
  • 2 ½ Tbsp. olive oil
  • 3/4 cup red onion finely diced
  • 1 1/2 jalapeno* seeded, finely diced
  • 1 1/2 cup tomatoes finely diced
  • 1 1/2 cup seedless cucumber finely diced
  • 1.1/2 cup avocado finely diced
  • 3/4 cup cilantro finely chopped
  • 3/4 tsp. Salt

How To Prepare It:

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
  • Add shrimp to boiling water and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until shrimp turn a light pink color and are cooked through.
