About Eating With Carmen Food Tours

What is Eating With Carmen Food Tours?

Eating With Carmen Food Tours is an award-winning walking food tour company in Mexico, founded in Playa del Carmen in 2017. We run small-group and private food tours in 9 destinations: Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Cozumel, Merida, Mexico City, San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.

Who is Carmen?

Carmen is not one person. The name is a nod to Playa del Carmen, the town where we started, and Carmen is the spirit of the company: the local foodie friend who knows the family kitchens, street stands and recipes most visitors never find.

Who founded Eating With Carmen Food Tours?

Eating With Carmen Food Tours was founded in 2017 by Daniel Cerda, a former corporate lawyer turned scuba instructor who settled in the Riviera Maya. He created the company as an alternative to typical resort excursions, built around local food and small family businesses.

Where does Eating With Carmen Food Tours operate?

We operate food tours in 9 destinations in Mexico: Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Cozumel in Quintana Roo; Merida in Yucatan; Mexico City; and San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas in Baja California Sur.

What awards has Eating With Carmen Food Tours won?

Eating With Carmen Food Tours holds Tripadvisor Travelers' Choice awards (2020 and 2024) and Best of the Best awards in 2022 and 2026. In 2026, our Playa del Carmen Walking Food Tour and our Merida Walking Food Tour were named Best of the Best, placing them in the top 1% of experiences worldwide on Tripadvisor.

How many people have taken a food tour with Eating With Carmen?

More than 30,000 guests have joined an Eating With Carmen food tour since 2017, most of them travelers from the United States, Canada and Europe.

What makes Eating With Carmen different from other food tours in Mexico?

We take you where locals actually eat, away from the mainstream tourist strips, in small groups led by local guides. We work with more than 100 local restaurants, taquerias and family-run kitchens, so the money you spend on the tour goes straight into the neighborhood.

Do your tours go to tourist-trap restaurants?

No. Our routes avoid the mainstream tourist zones (like Fifth Avenue in Playa del Carmen). Some stops are well known among locals, but every one is chosen for authentic food, not for its location on the tourist map.

Who are the guides?

Our guides, whom we call Expert Foodies, are locals or long-time residents of each destination, with backgrounds in cooking, music, theater and tourism. All of them speak English and Spanish and share the history and culture behind every dish.

How does Eating With Carmen support local communities?

Every tour is built around small, independent businesses: family restaurants, street vendors and markets. We partner with more than 100 local food businesses across Mexico and pay for every dish you eat, so your tour directly supports local families.

Where can I read reviews of Eating With Carmen Food Tours?

You can read thousands of verified reviews on Tripadvisor, Google, Viator, GetYourGuide and Airbnb Experiences. Several of our tours have more than 400 reviews each on Viator, with average ratings close to 5 stars.

Choosing a tour and destinations

What is the best food tour in Playa del Carmen?

The Playa del Carmen Food Tour by Eating With Carmen Food Tours (formerly the Authentic Local Experience) was named a 2026 Tripadvisor Travelers' Choice Best of the Best, in the top 1% of experiences worldwide. It is a 3-hour walking food tour through the local neighborhoods of Playa del Carmen, away from Fifth Avenue, at 10:00 AM or 5:00 PM.

Which food tour should I choose in Playa del Carmen?

For a first visit, choose the Playa del Carmen Food Tour: tacos, cochinita pibil, mole, tamales and local fruit at family-run local spots. Seafood lovers should pick the Playa del Carmen Seafood & Beer Tour (ceviche, seafood tacos and beer). Plant-based travelers have the Playa del Carmen Vegan Food Tour, and for a special night out there is the Gourmet Food & Tequila Tasting Tour, a 4-hour tasting at 4 upscale restaurants.

What is the best food tour in Tulum?

The Tulum Food Tour is our most popular tour in Tulum: 3 hours in downtown Tulum, with tacos de guisado, cochinita pibil, mole, tamales and al pastor, at 10:00 AM or 5:00 PM. We also run the Tulum Vegan Food Tour and the Tulum Seafood & Beer Tour.

Do your Tulum food tours go to the beach or the hotel zone?

No. Our Tulum tours take place in downtown Tulum (Tulum Pueblo), where local families eat, not in the beach hotel zone. The food there is more authentic and far better value. Most hotels and rentals are a short taxi ride from the meeting point.

Is there a food tour in Cancun outside the Hotel Zone?

Yes. The Cancun Food Tour takes you to downtown Cancun, where locals live and eat, including Mercado 28 and neighborhood taquerias. It is a 3-hour walking tour starting at 11:00 AM, with panuchos, carnitas, gorditas, sopes, quesadillas and fresh fruit.

Is there a food tour in Cozumel, and can I do it on a cruise stop?

Yes. The Cozumel Food Tour starts at 11:00 AM at the Clock Tower in Benito Juarez Park, the main square of San Miguel, and lasts about 3 hours. It is a popular choice for cruise passengers who want to eat beyond the port. Check your all-aboard time and leave at least 1 hour after the tour ends.

It is a 3-hour walking tour through Merida's historic center and its markets, Lucas de Galvez and San Benito, starting at the Merida letters in Plaza Grande at 10:00 AM or 3:00 PM.

What food will I try in Merida?

What is the Yucatan Grand Table?

The Yucatan Grand Table is a 2-hour, 7-course Yucatecan dinner in Merida, at Parque Santa Lucia, starting at 6:00 PM. Each course shows a different side of the region's cooking. You can add an alcohol upgrade with drink pairings for each course.

Do you have a short food tour in Merida or Mexico City?

Yes. Our market tours last about 1.5 hours with 4 tastings. In Merida, the Merida Market Food Tour visits Lucas de Galvez and San Benito markets. In Mexico City, choose the San Juan Market Exotic Food Tour (gourmet stalls, cheeses, exotic bites) or the Coyoacan Market Food Tour (street eats, chocolate and local legends).

Which food tour should I choose in Mexico City?

For history, choose the Mexico City Historic Center Food Tour, which starts outside the Cathedral on the Zocalo. For a bohemian neighborhood, choose the Coyoacan Food Tour. Both are 3-hour walking tours with 7 or more stops, at 11:00 AM or 4:00 PM. For a shorter tasting, pick one of our 1.5-hour market tours.

Is there a food tour near the Frida Kahlo Museum?

Yes. Our Coyoacan Food Tour and our Coyoacan Market Food Tour take place in Coyoacan, the Mexico City neighborhood where Frida Kahlo's Blue House is located. Many guests combine the museum and the food tour on the same day.

Do you offer food tours in Los Cabos?

Yes, in both towns. In San Jose del Cabo we run the San Jose del Cabo Food Tour (10:00 AM or 2:30 PM) and the San Jose del Cabo Seafood & Beer Tour. In Cabo San Lucas we run the Cabo San Lucas Food Tour (10:00 AM or 3:00 PM) and the Cabo San Lucas Seafood & Beer Tour.

Should I do the food tour in San Jose del Cabo or Cabo San Lucas?

Choose San Jose del Cabo for a quieter, colonial town with art galleries and a traditional feel. Choose Cabo San Lucas if you are staying there or want to stay close to the marina. Both food tours are 3 hours long, with tastings that include birria, Baja fish tacos, sopes and paletas.

Where can I do a seafood food tour?

Our Seafood & Beer Tours run in Playa del Carmen, Tulum, San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. They start at 12:00 PM, last about 3 hours and visit 4 local seafood spots for ceviche, fish and shrimp tacos, tostadas and other Mexican seafood, with a beer or soft drink at each stop.

Which tour is best for first-time visitors to Mexico?

Our classic city food tours are the best introduction to Mexican food: a mix of classics like tacos, tamales and mole plus regional specialties, and the history behind them. Choose the Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Cozumel, Merida, San Jose del Cabo or Cabo San Lucas Food Tour; in Mexico City, the Coyoacan Food Tour or the Mexico City Historic Center Food Tour.

Is it better to take the morning or the afternoon tour?

Both include the same number of stops. Morning tours are cooler and feel like a full brunch, with breakfast classics like tamales and fresh fruit. Afternoon and evening tours have a livelier street atmosphere and lean toward tacos, such as al pastor, which locals eat later in the day.

I am not sure which tour to pick. Can you help?

Yes. Take our 1-minute Tour Finder quiz and it will recommend the right tour for your destination, tastes and group. You can also message us on WhatsApp (+52 984 310 7514).

Do you run food tours on Day of the Dead and holidays?

Most tours run on public holidays. On November 1 and 2 (Day of the Dead) there are no tours in Mexico City or Merida. For Christmas, New Year and Easter dates, check availability on each tour page.

Did your tour names change?

Booking, prices and payment

How do I book a food tour with Eating With Carmen?

Is it cheaper to book on your website than on Viator or GetYourGuide?

Yes. Our own website always has our lowest public price, because we do not pay a platform commission. Booking direct also means you deal with our team for any change, and you can add the Flexible rate to cancel up to 1 hour before the tour.

What does the price of the tour include?

The price includes every food tasting and drink served during the tour and a local bilingual guide. It does not include tips for your guide, transportation to the meeting point, or any extra food or drinks you decide to buy on your own.

Does the price of the tour include the food and drinks?

Yes. The price you pay for any of our tours includes all the food and beverages we offer during the experience. You will not need to pay at any of the stops.

How much does a food tour cost?

Prices depend on the destination and the tour. Our market tours are our most affordable option, our classic city food tours are mid-range, and the Seafood & Beer Tours and the Gourmet Food & Tequila Tasting Tour are premium experiences. You see the exact price per adult and child on each tour page before you pay.

In which currency are prices shown and charged?

On our website prices are shown in US dollars for reference and charged in Mexican pesos (MXN). Your bank converts the amount at its exchange rate, so the final figure on your card statement can vary slightly.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept major credit and debit cards through our secure online checkout. For private and group tours we also accept Stripe payment links and bank transfers in Mexican pesos. If you prefer to pay with cryptocurrency (BTC, USDT or USDC), email us at info@eatingwithcarmen.com.

Do I need to pay in full when I book?

Yes. Full payment is required at the time of booking to confirm your spots, unless we agree otherwise for a private or corporate group.

Is there a discount for children?

Yes. Most of our tours have a reduced child price, shown on each tour page when you select your tickets.

How far in advance should I book my food tour?

In high season (November to April, plus Christmas, New Year and Easter weeks) we recommend booking 1 to 2 weeks ahead, because our groups are small and popular dates sell out. In low season, a few days ahead is usually enough.

Can I book a food tour for today or tomorrow?

Often, yes. If there are spots left, you can book online for the next days and sometimes for the same day. For last-minute requests, message us on WhatsApp (+52 984 310 7514) and we will check availability for you.

Will I receive a confirmation after booking?

Yes. You receive a confirmation email right after booking with your meeting point, start time, map link and what to expect, and a reminder the day before your tour.

I did not receive my confirmation email. What should I do?

Check your spam or promotions folder first. If it is not there, write to info@eatingwithcarmen.com or WhatsApp +52 984 310 7514 with your name and tour date, and we will resend it.

Do you sell gift cards?

Yes. Eating With Carmen Food Tours gift cards make a great present for food lovers traveling to Mexico, and they can be used for any of our tours in our 9 destinations. Buy a gift card online and it arrives by email, ready to send or print.

Do I need to print my ticket?

No. Your confirmation email on your phone is enough. Your guide checks in the group by name at the meeting point.

Should I tip my guide, and how much?

Tips are not included in the price and are always optional. In Mexico it is customary to tip tour guides between 10% and 15% of the tour price if you enjoyed the experience. You can tip in Mexican pesos or US dollars.

Cancellations, changes and weather

What is your cancellation policy?

When you book directly with Eating With Carmen Food Tours, you choose between two rates. With the Limited rate you can cancel or reschedule for free up to 24 hours before the tour starts. With the Flexible rate you can cancel or reschedule for any reason up to 1 hour before the tour starts.

What is the Flexible rate (trip protection)?

The Flexible rate is optional trip protection that costs an extra 15% of your booking. It lets you cancel or reschedule for any reason up to 1 hour before departure. If you cancel, you get a full refund of the ticket price; only the 15% Flexible fee is non-refundable.

Can I reschedule my food tour to another day?

Yes. With the Limited rate you can move your tour to another available date for free up to 24 hours before it starts; with the Flexible rate, up to 1 hour before. Inside those windows, write to us anyway and we will do our best to find you another date, subject to availability.

How do I cancel or change my booking?

Use the link in your confirmation email, or write to info@eatingwithcarmen.com or WhatsApp +52 984 310 7514 with your booking reference. If you booked through Viator, GetYourGuide, Airbnb or another platform, cancel or change it through that platform.

I booked through Viator or GetYourGuide. Which cancellation policy applies?

If you booked through a third-party platform such as Viator, GetYourGuide, Civitatis, Klook or Airbnb Experiences, that platform's cancellation and refund policy applies, and refunds are processed by the platform. Most of them allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before the tour.

What happens if I miss the tour or arrive too late?

Tours start on time and the group cannot wait long, so a no-show is charged the full price. If you are running late, message us on WhatsApp (+52 984 310 7514) right away: when possible, we will help you meet the group along the route.

Do you cancel the tour if it rains?

No. Our tours run rain or shine, and we provide raincoats if you need one. Most stops are covered, and a tropical rain shower rarely lasts long. We only cancel when the authorities suspend activities in the area, for example during a hurricane warning.

What happens if my tour is canceled because of a hurricane or by Eating With Carmen?

If we cancel a tour for any reason, including a hurricane warning or an official suspension of activities, you can move to another date or receive a full refund.

Will my tour be canceled if not enough people book?

All our group tours run with a minimum of just 2 guests. If you are the only guest booked on a departure, we contact you in advance to offer another time or tour with other guests, or a full refund.

Can the route or the food stops change?

Yes, occasionally. If a restaurant is closed, sold out or affected by weather, your guide replaces it with another stop of the same quality. The number of tastings and the spirit of the tour stay the same.

Can I get a refund if I get sick or have an emergency on the day of the tour?

Outside the cancellation window, we only refund for force majeure or medical reasons, and for a medical reason we ask for a doctor's note. If something comes up, message us as soon as possible on WhatsApp (+52 984 310 7514) and we will first try to move you to another date.

Food, drinks and dietary needs

What kind of food will I try on a food tour with Eating With Carmen?

You taste real Mexican street food and home cooking: tacos (al pastor, carnitas, guisado), cochinita pibil, mole, tamales, sopes, quesadillas, regional specialties, tropical fruit, aguas frescas and handmade paletas. Every destination has its own menu built around local dishes.

How much food is included? Is it enough for a meal?

Yes, more than enough. Our classic city food tours include enough tastings to add up to a full and generous meal. Come hungry and skip a big breakfast or lunch before the tour.

How many food stops does each tour have?

It depends on the tour and the day. Our classic city food tours have the most stops, and every route adds up to a full meal. The Seafood & Beer Tours and our market tours have 4 stops each, and the Gourmet Food & Tequila Tasting Tour visits 4 upscale restaurants. The Yucatan Grand Table is a seated 7-course dinner.

Are there vegetarian options?

Yes, we have vegetarian options on all of our tours. Please tell us about any dietary requirements when you book, so every stop has a vegetarian dish ready for you.

Are there gluten-free options?

Yes, we offer gluten-free options on most of our tours; corn tortillas, the base of Mexican cooking, are naturally gluten-free. Please tell us in advance so we can adapt each stop. We cannot guarantee a kitchen free of cross-contamination.

Are there vegan options?

We offer dedicated 100% plant-based tours: the Playa del Carmen Vegan Food Tour and the Tulum Vegan Food Tour, with vegan tacos, al pastor, ceviche, tamales and more. Our other tours cannot fully accommodate vegan diets at this time, so we recommend booking one of the vegan tours.

Can you accommodate food allergies?

In most cases, yes. When you book, tell us about any allergy (nuts, shellfish, dairy or others) and our guide will adapt each stop. Because we visit local restaurants and street stands, we cannot guarantee zero cross-contamination, so if your allergy is severe, contact us before booking.

I am allergic to seafood. Can I join a Seafood & Beer Tour?

No, the Seafood & Beer Tours are built around fish and shellfish at every stop, so we do not recommend them. Choose one of our classic city food tours instead, where seafood can be easily avoided.

Can you accommodate guests who do not eat pork?

Yes, with advance notice. Pork is common in Mexican cooking (cochinita pibil, al pastor, carnitas), but we can replace it with chicken, beef or vegetarian options at most stops. We cannot offer halal- or kosher-certified food.

Is the food spicy?

No, not unless you want it to be. Mexican dishes are usually served mild, with salsas on the side so you control the heat. Your guide will tell you which salsas are hot.

Are alcoholic drinks included?

Only on some tours. The Seafood & Beer Tours include a beer or soft drink at each stop, the Gourmet Food & Tequila Tasting Tour includes a cocktail, wine or soft drink at each restaurant, and the Yucatan Grand Table has an optional alcohol upgrade. Our classic city food tours and market tours are alcohol-free, with aguas frescas and juices.

What is the minimum age to drink alcohol on the tours?

Guests must be at least 18 years old to drink alcohol on our tours, according to Mexican law. Younger guests on the Seafood & Beer Tours receive a soft drink instead. The Gourmet Food & Tequila Tasting Tour is for adults 18+ only.

Do you offer water during the tour?

Yes. During the tour we serve fresh juices and aguas frescas (traditional flavored waters made with purified water). If you prefer plain water, let your guide know and they will get it for you at no cost.

Is this tour good for picky eaters?

Honestly, our tours are best for curious eaters. We go to authentic local places, not upscale or Americanized restaurants, and the menu is set. If you only eat a few familiar foods, tell us before booking and we will tell you which tour fits you best, or if a food tour is not the right plan.

Will I have to eat insects?

Never. On some Mexico City tours you can try chapulines (toasted grasshoppers), a traditional snack from Oaxaca, but it is always optional.

On the day of your tour

How long is the tour?

Our classic city food tours and the Seafood & Beer Tours last about 3 hours, our market tours about 1.5 hours, the Gourmet Food & Tequila Tasting Tour about 4 hours and the Yucatan Grand Table dinner about 2 hours. Timing can vary slightly with the pace of the group.

What time do the tours start?

It depends on the tour. Most classic city food tours run in the morning (10:00 or 11:00 AM) and in the afternoon or early evening (between 2:30 and 5:00 PM). The Seafood & Beer Tours start at 12:00 PM, and the Gourmet Food & Tequila Tasting Tour and the Yucatan Grand Table at 6:00 PM. See each tour page for exact times.

Where is the meeting point?

Each tour has its own meeting point in the center of town, shown on the tour page and in your confirmation email with a map link. For example, the Cozumel tour meets at the Clock Tower in Benito Juarez Park, the Merida tour at the Merida letters in Plaza Grande and the Mexico City Historic Center tour outside the Cathedral on the Zocalo.

Where does the tour end?

Tours end in the same area where they start, usually within a 10- to 15-minute walk of the meeting point, so it is easy to get back to your hotel or continue exploring. Your guide can recommend what to do next.

How early should I arrive?

Please arrive at the meeting point 10 minutes before the start time. Tours leave on time, and a delay of 15 minutes or more is considered a no-show. If you are running late, message us on WhatsApp (+52 984 310 7514).

Do you offer hotel pickup or transportation?

Our group tours do not include transportation; you meet your guide at the meeting point. Private tours can include round-trip transportation in a private van on request, in any of our destinations.

How do I get to the meeting point?

In Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cozumel, Merida and San Jose del Cabo, the meeting point is in the town center, within walking distance or a short taxi ride of most hotels. From resorts outside town, take a taxi or a registered ride service and allow extra time. Your confirmation email includes a map link you can show your driver.

How far will we walk during the tour?

The average total walking distance is about 1 mile (1.6 kilometers), spread over 3 hours. You rest and sit down at most of the food stops, so the pace is relaxed and suitable for most fitness levels.

What should I bring and wear on the food tour?

We recommend comfortable clothes and walking shoes, a hat or cap, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle and a little cash for tips or extra purchases. Bring your appetite and leave valuables at the hotel.

What if it is very hot?

The Caribbean and Yucatan can be hot and humid, especially from May to October. Our guides plan shaded routes, take breaks indoors at the food stops, serve cold aguas frescas and can provide hand fans. Choose a morning or late-afternoon start for cooler temperatures.

How many people are in a group?

Our groups are small: a maximum of 12 guests per guide on most tours, 10 on some tours and 8 on the Gourmet Food & Tequila Tasting Tour. Small groups mean more time with your guide and a more personal experience.

In which language are the tours?

All our tours are available in English and Spanish in every destination; choose your language when you book. Guests who speak other languages are always welcome on English tours.

Are there restrooms on the tour?

Yes. Almost every restaurant and market we visit has a restroom guests can use. Ask your guide and they will point out the next one.

Can I take photos during the tour?

Yes, take as many as you like. Our guides are happy to take group photos, and they may take photos and videos during the tour that we share on our social media.

Can I leave the tour early?

Yes. You can leave at any time; just let your guide know. Leaving early does not entitle you to a partial refund.

Kids, families and accessibility

Are your food tours kid-friendly?

Yes. Our classic city food tours, market tours and vegan tours are very popular with families. Kids love the tacos, quesadillas, tropical fruit, aguas frescas and handmade paletas, and the walking is broken up by sit-down stops. Many parents tell us it was their children's favorite activity of the trip.

What ages count as adult, child and infant?

On most tours, guests aged 12 and over pay the adult price, children aged 5 to 11 pay the child price, and infants aged 0 to 4 join for free. The Gourmet Food & Tequila Tasting Tour is for adults 18+ only.

Do babies and toddlers need a ticket?

Yes, please add infants (0 to 4 years) when you book so your guide knows to expect them, even though they eat from their parents' tastings. Infants join for free.

Can I bring a stroller?

Yes, a compact, lightweight stroller works on most routes. Keep in mind that sidewalks in Mexican town centers can be narrow and uneven, and some markets get crowded, so a baby carrier is often easier.

Are the tours wheelchair accessible?

Our walking tours are not fully wheelchair accessible: sidewalks can be uneven, curbs are high and some stops have steps. Guests with reduced mobility can often join with some help. Contact us before booking and we will tell you which tour works best or design a private tour adapted to your needs.

Are the tours suitable for seniors or guests with limited mobility?

Yes, for most guests. The total distance is about 1 mile (1.6 km) over 3 hours at a relaxed pace, with sit-down breaks at the food stops. If walking is difficult, choose a 1.5-hour market tour or a private tour at your own pace.

Can teenagers join the tours that include alcohol?

Yes. On the Seafood & Beer Tours, guests under 18 are welcome and receive a soft drink instead of beer. The Gourmet Food & Tequila Tasting Tour is for adults 18+ only.

Is a private tour a good option for families?

Yes. A private tour lets you choose the start time, go at your children's pace and adapt the stops to what your family likes to eat. It is a great option for families with young kids or multigenerational groups.

Safety and health

Is it safe to leave my resort and take a food tour in Playa del Carmen?

Yes. Our tours walk through busy, everyday neighborhoods where local families live, work and eat, always with a local guide who knows the area. More than 30,000 guests have toured with us since 2017. Use the same common sense you would in any city: keep valuables close and leave expensive jewelry at the hotel.

Is it safe to eat street food in Mexico?

Yes, when you know where to eat, and that is exactly what our guides do. Every stop is a vendor or restaurant we have worked with for years, chosen for cleanliness, fresh ingredients and high turnover. We do not include risky items like tap water or raw dishes from places we do not trust.

Will I get sick on a food tour in Mexico?

The chance is very low. The places we visit use purified water and commercial purified ice, which is the standard in Mexico, and they serve food cooked to order. Most guests with sensitive stomachs enjoy the tour without problems; if you have a medical condition, tell us when you book so we can adapt.

Is the water on the tour safe to drink?

Yes. All drinks and aguas frescas on the tour are made with purified water. If you prefer plain bottled or purified water, ask your guide and they will get it for you at no cost. Avoid drinking tap water anywhere in Mexico.

Do I need to sign a waiver?

Yes. Every guest signs a short digital waiver before the tour starts. Your guide shows a QR code at the meeting point and it takes about a minute on your phone.

Is a food tour a good activity for solo travelers?

Yes. Many of our guests travel alone, and a small group with a local guide is one of the easiest and safest ways to explore a new town, eat well and meet other travelers.

Should I bring cash on the tour?

All the food and drinks on the tour are already paid. Bring a little cash (Mexican pesos or US dollars) if you want to tip your guide, buy an extra drink or take home snacks or souvenirs from the shops along the way.

Private, corporate and group tours

Do you offer private food tours?

Yes. Any of our food tours in our 9 destinations can be booked as a private tour, just for your family, friends or colleagues, with a dedicated guide and a start time that fits your plans. Request one on our Private & Corporate Tours page or at info@eatingwithcarmen.com.

How much does a private food tour cost?

A private tour is priced per person at the regular tour price, with a minimum group charge: the equivalent of 8 adults from November 1 to April 30 (high season) and 5 adults from May 1 to October 31 (low season). Send us your date, destination and group size for an exact quote.

Can a private tour include transportation?

Yes. For private tours we can add round-trip transportation from your hotel or vacation rental in private vans of up to 12 passengers. Transportation is quoted separately, based on your pickup location and group size.

Do you organize food tours for corporate groups and team building?

Yes. We regularly host corporate groups, incentive trips and team-building events, from small teams to groups of several hundred people. Large groups are split into small teams of up to 12, each with its own guide, so everyone gets the full experience.

Can you plan a food tour for a birthday, anniversary, bachelorette or proposal?

Yes. Private tours are popular for birthdays, anniversaries, honeymoons, bachelor and bachelorette parties and family reunions. Tell us what you are celebrating and we will help you make it special.

Can we customize the menu or the route of a private tour?

Yes, within reason. On a private tour we can adapt the stops to dietary needs, food preferences, the age of your group or a special theme, and set a start time that suits you. Let us know your requests when you ask for a quote.

Can we add a professional photographer to our tour?

Yes. Private tours can include a professional photo package, with a photographer who joins the tour and captures your group while you eat.

How do I pay for a private or corporate tour?

You can pay with a secure Stripe payment link, which accepts credit and debit cards from any country and in any currency, or by bank transfer to our Mexican account in Mexican pesos (MXN). We also accept cryptocurrency (BTC, USDT, USDC) by email request.

What is the cancellation policy for private tours?

Private tours have their own policy because we reserve guides and restaurants exclusively for your group. If you cancel 8 days or more before the tour, you choose between a 90% refund or a one-time reschedule at no cost, subject to availability. Seven days or less before the tour, no refunds, changes or rescheduling are possible. Rescheduled tours are final, and group size can be reduced up to 8 days before the tour.

Is the tip included in a group or corporate quote?

No. Gratuities for the guides are always optional and never added automatically. Many groups choose to add a 15% tip to their quote, and we are happy to include it as a separate line if you wish.

Do you work with travel agents, DMCs and wedding planners?

Yes. We work with travel agents, destination management companies, hotels and wedding planners across Mexico, with special trade rates. Write to info@eatingwithcarmen.com to receive our trade information.
